Home / Interns / Intern Education / Intern Support

The Within Earthly Bounds internship cooperative,

Program: Boones Farm, Wolf Gulch Farm and Yale Creek Ranch (all listed on WWOOF) are participating in this first year of the Within Earthly Bounds Intern Cooperative.

We are located in the Eastern Siskiyou Mountains, and focused on creating an enriching educational experience, while providing a social support network for interns.

The participating farmers are dedicated to intern education; in 2006 they developed and taught a 20 class intern curriculum which will serve as the framework for the education component in 2007. Interns, in addition to the skills gained daily from seven months of working on their home farm, will attend regularly scheduled work parties, classes and special events with the other interns at each of the participating farms. The work parties will provide an opportunity for interns to explore the specialties of each of the farms. Farm activities include: vegetable and vegetable seed production, greenhouse production and management, livestock and pasture management, goat milking and cheese production, raising and making hay, soil fertility and irrigation management (including gravity fed and drip irrigation), cut flower production, ecological restoration, and establishment of perennial crops. Please see the individual farm listings for farm specific activities. In addition to the farm activities, Within Earthly Bounds will be organizing a series of special events (barn parties, movie nights, hikes, etc.) that interns and farmers are encouraged to join us for.

Interns will participate in all stages of farm work on their home farms, but will also rotate through the other farms, (including Quartz Creek, a newly established farm that is not yet hosting interns), for large work parties, classes and special events. The work parties will provide an opportunity for interns to explore the specialties of each of the farms. Each work party will include a field lesson and will be followed by a lesson from a 20 class intern curriculum, developed and taught by the farmers in 2006. See Class Topics Here.

All the participating farms provide housing, farm produce, and various stipends. Interns are expected to work 35-45 hours, Mon-Fri with some longer hours at the peak of the season. Work parties and classes are considered part of the regular work week.

If you are a motivated individual or couple who is genuinely interested in small-scale sustainable agriculture. If you are excited to learn, and able to do strenuous labor, willing to work hard whether in a group or on their own, you are invited to apply. Space: Can accommodate 7 people.
